Premiere: Protest and Hope from the Silenced Half

  • Midtown Arts Center Houston (map)

Texas New Music Festival brings an international roster of composers and performers to Houston for an eight-day celebration of new music with the Texas New Music Ensemble and other guest performers! Texas New Music Ensemble will present the second of two concerts of World Premiere performances of works written specifically for the 2025 Texas New Music Festival. Led by TNME Principal Conductor Felipe Tristan, the 12-piece sinfonietta will premiere works by composers from around the globe, representing the USA, Canada, Mexico, Australia, China, and Korea.

Protest and Hope from the Silenced Half is a musical reflection on the resilience, pain, and unyielding optimism of those whose voices have been historically silenced—particularly women, queer artists, and marginalized creators. Through shifting textures, dissonant tension, and lyrical motifs, the piece moves from quiet resistance to soaring declarations of selfhood and collective strength.
